Last October, the Ontario Provincial Legislature passed Bill 103, officially declaring the month of June “Italian Heritage Month”.

And so for its inaugural year, the organizers – namely the Toronto District of the National Congress of Italian Canadians – have planned a full calendar of events. Today (June 2) marks the official launch of the festivities with an Italian flag raising ceremony at Queen’s Park. All month long you can find an event for all ages and for all tastes throughout the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa and other parts of Ontario.

Highlights include today’s “Piazza Italia” festivities in Yonge-Dundas Square; the launch of the Caravaggio and his followers in Rome exhibit at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa; the “Taste of Little Italy on College” street fair on the weekend of June 17; events all month long at the Columbus Centre in Toronto; and “Italian Day” at the June 12Blue Jays game.
