Last month Italian soprano Giorgia Fumanti released her fifth album, Elysium. A crossover album, it features both original songs and contemporary hits.

“It’s my favorite album so far,” Fumanti admits.

“I got to produce for the first time. And I was pregnant with my first child during the recording. That time is full of memories,” she continues.

Born in Tuscany, and now living in Quebec, Fumanti admits that she was an extremely shy child and did not start to sing until the age of seventeen when she sang with the church choir in her home town. It would take years for her to muster up the courage to pursue a singing career.

Then finally, in 2004, Fumanti released her debut album, Like A Dream. Two years later she would sign her first major recording contract.

Today, Fumanti’s memorable voice allows her the opportunity to travel the world and perform in front of countless audiences.

Fumanti has an especially big following in China. It all started with a performance on a national Chinese television show during a promotional tour for her second album. Since then she has been back to the country countless times.

She will back again in China later this year to promote Elysium, just after her tour in Quebec, Ontario and Italy.

Some of the thirteen songs on Elysium include: Somewhere in Time and L’Amore Vincera (from the movie Out of Africa), Dream A Dream, Lionel Richie’s Endless Love, Abba’s I Have A Dream, and The Rose. The album also features a virtual duet with the Luciano Pavarotti, on the song, Nessum dorma.

“I remember the first time I heard back the Nessum dorma. It was very beautiful, but at the same time very unreal,” she fondly recalls.

“I don’t want to sing for just one type of audience. I want to sign to everyone. Music that has no boundaries. Beautiful music, no matter the style. That is what I love.”
