The Association of Italian Canadians (AICW), in partnership with Guernica Editions and Accenti Magazine, have launched a new national project to commemorate the internment of over 600 Italian Canadians during the Second World War.

Entitled AICW Remembers the Internment of Italian Canadians, the project will consist of the publication of two anthologies on the subject. One book will focus on the academic analysis of the topic from various disciples. The second book will take a more creative look at the subject.

“The story of the internment of Italian Canadians during the Second World War is still not discussed in Canadian history books. With this project, the AICW hopes to raise awareness about this important chapter in our collective history,” explains Licia Canton, president of the AICW.

The books are scheduled for publication in early 2012, both in print and electronic format. The AICW has put out a call for submissions for the books, with a deadline of August 15, 2011.
