Frank Kermit tells it like it is

      Sep. 27, 2012

“I have to tell people things they might not want to hear. My job is to be frank with them,” explains relationship coach Frank Kermit.

Born and raised in an Italian Montreal household, Kermit is a relationship coach, author, educator and media personality. Since his return to Montreal in 2010 after a five-year stint in Toronto, he has slowing been building his business, which now includes weekly workshops, one-on-one coaching services, and a variety of media gigs. He is a regular guest on Dr. Laurie Betito’s Passion show on CJAD 800AM and writes a weekly relationship column in The West End Times.

Kermit is also a prolific writer with twelve self-published books under his belt, and eight more ready to go. His first publication, From Loser to Seducer, is an autobiography that outlines Kermit’s story of how a broken heart led to the person he is today.

Kermit’s original plan was to write one book, but as he kept writing and writing he realized that each planned chapter was turning into a book of its own.

“The irony of this is that I initially wrote the books so I that I wouldn’t have to do consulting. I kept telling people the same stories over and over, and so I wrote the books and told people, why talk to me, read my book. But the more books I produced, the more coaching people wanted,” Kermit muses.

“I never intended to become a relationship coach. Now it’s become my main identity,” he continues.

In addition to the books – which are all available for purchase on – Kermit also has 59 lectures on CD available on his own website at

And he’s not done yet. His goal is to publish 100 books and 400 CDs. He’s also working hard to make his relationship coaching practice a full time endeavor, and earlier this year started a weekly relationship workshop in Montreal’s west end neighbourhood.

Kermit’s coaching is unique in that it goes beyond the appointment concept. He offers a retainer service that allows one to call him whenever they feel the necessity to do so.

“You can call me when the crisis is happening. It actually allows me to better understand what is happening and to point out the behavior problem,” he explains.

And if that wasn’t enough, Kermit is planning to go back to school to complete his therapist license. He already has a degree in trauma counseling and a Masters in Communications.

Kermit was a teenager when he started dreaming of having his own advice column. He was a fan of Ann Landers and thought it would be an amazing thing to do. He also had an interest in acting and radio, and dreamed of working in media. But an array of discouragements from family members and even teachers kept him from reaching his goals. But now, at the age of 39, he is finally pursing his childhood dreams.

“Now, I give people the encouragement that I never got.”

Kermit’s Frank Talks Weekly Relationship Workshops take place every Saturday evening from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at St. Philips Anglican Church, located at 7505 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal. Each workshop covers various topics such as self-esteem, dating dilemmas, fears of intimacy, sex, marriage, alterative relationships, and so forth. Admission is $5.00.
