In The Kitchen with Sandra: Valentine Brownies

      Feb. 12, 2013

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Love is in the air… And who doesn’t love brownies! This recipe introduces you to pure cacao. My love affair with pure cacao began when I tried this brownie for the first time. You will be surprised at the wonderful aroma and rich color of the cacao. It’s worth the trip to a specialty store and worth the cost. Not to mention this must be one of the easiest brownie recipes to make. All you need is one bowl! Happy Valentines Day!

      Valentine Brownies

      ¾ cups pure cacao
      1 ½ cups sifted A/P flour
      ½ tsp baking powder
      ¾ cup butter, melted
      1 cup sugar
      1 cup brown sugar
      2 large eggs
      2 tsp vanilla extract
2 ounces chewy caramel cut into one-centimeter pieces
      ½ cup chopped walnuts
      Icing sugar to dust (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8 or 9-inch glass pan. In a large mixing bowl add all the ingredients and mix well. Pour into prepared pan and place into the oven. How easy was that! Bake for about 25 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.

If you have heart shaped cutters, then have some fun and cut out different size hearts. At this point you may dust several of them with icing sugar and arrange them on a plate for a delicious Valentine’s Day dessert! They can also be served with vanilla ice cream. Yummy!
