      Aug. 12, 2013

Ground zero for Montreal’s Italian Week today is Ouellette Park in LaSalle. Performances start at 8:00PM and feature the music of Dolceamare, Vincenzo Cesari, and SophistOccasion, as well as the comedy of Joe Cacchione. Various community groups will have kiosks set up at the park. A parade of Fiat 500 cars will also make an appearance.

A unique photo exhibit by Luigi Pasto is on display at the Casa d’Italia, located at 505 Jean-Talon Street East in Little Italy. Cantina features gorgeous black and white photographs of proud Italian Montrealers inside their home cantinas. As any child of an Italian immigrant knows, the cantina is more than just a cold storage room. It represents the self-sufficient traditional values from il paese. Pasto’s exhibit is an homage to the Italian immigrant experience and a wonderful photojournalistic essay. The exhibit is open nightly from 6:00PM to 9:00PM until August 15. Admission is free. To learn more about Luigi Pasto, please visit his website at www.luigipasto.com.

Federico Fellini films continue to screen at the Casa D’Italia and the Leonardo da Vinci Centre in St-Leonard. Screenings start at 7:30PM and admission is free. Film screenings include La Dolce Vita, Amarcord, La Strada, Le notti di Cabiria, I Vitelloni and more. A complete list of screenings is available at http://italianweek.ca/en/main-events/federico-fellini-film-festival/.

Montreal’s Italian Week runs until Sunday, August 18. A detailed schedule of activities is available at www.italianweek.ca.
