      Montreal’s Italian Week – Day Ten

      Montreal’s Italian Week is in its final day of festivities. After yesterday’s record-breaking attendance, today’s weather and line up of activities promises another jam-packed crowd. Our advice… leave the car at home!

      Dozens of tents and kiosks lined up on St-Laurent Boulevard feature local merchants, community groups and organizations. We’ve got old Fiat 500s, Vespas, books, magazines, jewelry, clothing, knick knacks, activities for the kids, activities for the adults, sausages panini’s, granita, coffee… and more! has partnered up with the Sons of Italy to host a Scopa Tournament during Montreal’s Italian Week. The tournament continues today at 2:00PM with the quarterfinals. Only eight teams remain and by 6:00PM we will crown the champion team. If you didn’t register for the tournament, don’t fret. Passersby also have the opportunity to enjoy a leisure game of Scopa throughout the weekend. The Scopa tent is stationed on St Laurent Boulevard just north of St-Zotique Street.

      Internet puppet sensation Nonna Maria and Friends ( were a big hit yesterday. And they are back today! At 7:00PM, the gang will film a live edition of The Nonna Maria Show at the Nonna Maria booth on St Laurent Boulevard just north of St-Zotique Street.

      Once again, the festival will champion the best pastry maker in the city. This time, the judges will dive into various ricotta-filled sfogliatelli to discover who in Montreal makes the best pastry. The panel of judges include Cousin Vinny Barrucco from The Beat, local weather man Franco Cavallaro, TV chef Stefano Faita, media personality Mose Persico, Top Chef Canada finalist Danny Smilez, and Nonna Maria, with comedian Franco Taddeo as MC. The competition will commence at 2:00PM on the Shamrock Stage at the corner of St-Laurent Boulevard and Shamrock Street.

      The festival’s grand finale will be a free outdoor performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata at 9:00PM on the big stage at the corner of St-Laurent Boulevard and St-Zotique Street. Performers include tenor Antonio Figueroa in the role of Alfredo Germont, soprano
Raphaëlle Paquette in the role of Violetta Valery,
and baryton Alexandre Sylvestre in the role of Giorgio Germont.
