      Montreal’s Italian Week 2014 – Day One

      The Vision of Paolo SoleriAnd it’s a go. Montreal’s Italian Week – la Settimana Italiana di Montreal – officially launches today with outdoor activities and three film screenings.

      New York filmmaker Lisa Scafuro will be in Montreal to present the Quebec premiere of her documentary film, The Vision of Paolo Soleri: Prophet in the Desert. The screening will take place this evening (August 8) at 7:30PM in the Theatro Piccolo at the Leonardo da Vinci Center, located at 8370 Boulevard Lacordaire in St-Leonard. The film examines Paolo Soleri’s legacy as an architect, environmentalist, and philosopher. Admission is free and open to the public.

      Over at Casa D’Italia, at 505 Jean Talon Est in Little Italy, audiences will be treated to a free screening of Il Conte Max by director Giorgio Bianchi. The screenings starts at 7:30PM.

      La bisbetica domata by director Franco Zeffirelli will screen inside the chalet at Parc Ouellette in LaSalle. The screening also begins at 7:30PM and admission is free.

      Le Boulevard Shopping Centre, located at the corner of Jean Talon and Pie-IX streets, will play host to festival performances throughout the weekend. Today, passerbys will be treated to performances by singer Joseph Segreti and Dolceamare & Friends. The show starts at 5:00PM.

      Outdoor festivities will run all weekend long at Maria Auxiliatrice Church in Riviere-des-Prairies. Things get underway at 7:00PM tonight.
