      In The Kitchen with SandraThe BBQ has been working overtime, grilling your favorite cuts of meat, fish and vegetables. All you need now is a tasty side dish to compliment your BBQ fare. Have you noticed the trend of mixing two tastes together? Sweet and spicy has always been a popular choice. But sweet and salty is also a favorite.  Here is an easy recipe that will satisfy any taste bud and compliment many BBQ dishes.

      Sweet and Salty Broccoli Salad

      INGREDIENTS
      4 cups bite-sized raw broccoli flowerets
      ¼ cup chopped green onion
      ½ cup sweetened dried cranberries
      ½ cup salted cashews
      For the vinaigrette:
      ½ cup mayonnaise
      2 tbsp sugar
      2 tbsp red wine vinegar
      Option: bacon bits or sliced prosciutto

      Begin by making the vinaigrette. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sugar and red wine vinegar. Set aside.

      In a larger bowl, mix together the broccoli flowerets, the green onion, cranberries and cashews. Add the prepared vinaigrette and mix well. Place the salad in a sealed container and place in the fridge for at least an hour to allow the flavors to infuse together.

      As an added option, sprinkle some bacon bits or sliced prosciutto over the salad.
