      “Italo” Christmas Cookie Contest

      Italo Christmas Cookie ContestIt’s time once again for Italocanadese’s third annual “Italo” Christmas Cookie Contest! We hope you have been testing out your recipes all year long!

      THE CONTEST is on the search for the best homemade “Italo” Christmas cookie. We want to hear about that special treat that Nonna or Mom only made – and hopefully still make – during the Christmas holiday. Is it a special recipe Nonna brought over from the paese? Is it something Mom created when you were young? Or perhaps it’s something you whipped up on a whim a few years back to everyone’s delight?

      The winning entry will be featured in a special installment of  “In The Kitchen with Sandra” on December 22, 2014. The winner will receive a gift bag of Epicure Selections products.


      Please submit a complete recipe (including ingredients and instructions), along with a short story about why these cookies are so special. Also include a photograph that compliments your story and/or recipe. Submissions must be written in English. There is no word length requirement.       This year I will start you off with a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe. The chocolate chip cookie is, in my opinion, one of the most popular cookies. As we pass the cookie aisles at any grocery store, we see many cookie brands and their own version of a chocolate chip cookie. From crispy to chewy, from thick to thin… so many to choose from to satisfy all tastes. This recipe is a chewy version that takes very little time to make. All you need is one big bowl! No mixer needed!

      Classic Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

      2 cups all purpose flour
      1 tsp baking soda
      ¼ tsp salt
      ½ cup sugar
      ½ cups packed brown sugar
      ¾ cup butter, softened
      2 eggs
      1 tsp pure vanilla extract
      1/3 cup milk chocolate chips
      1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
      1/3 cup white chocolate chips

      Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

      In a large mixing bowl, add all ingredients except the chocolate chips. Using a large wooden spoon (or a very clean hand) mix all ingredients together until a dough forms. Add the chocolate chips until evenly mixed. On a parchment lined baking sheet, place heaping teaspoon scoops of the chocolate chip cookie dough. Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cookie is slightly browned. Remove from the oven and let it cool before serving.
