In the kitchen with Sandra: Spicy Dogs

      Feb. 17, 2016

In the kitchen with SandraSometimes we are looking for something fun to serve to our teenager and their friends, or something that will be a big hit during game night. Look no further! The classic hot dog will be transformed and spiced up with this twist to the classic Michigan sauce.

      Spicy Michigan Hot Dogs

      1 tbsp olive oil
1 lbs ground lean minced beef
      1 tbsp minced onion
      1 tsp garlic powder
      1 tsp ground cumin
      1 tsp hot sauce
      1 tsp chili powder
      12 oz tomato coulis
      Salt to taste
1 cup shredded marble cheddar cheese
      12 all beef hotdogs
12 steamed hot dog buns (The buns can also be micro-waved for about 10 seconds each if you do not have any means to steam them)

In a saucepan begin by heating the oil over medium high heat. Add the minced onions and cook until translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the ground beef, garlic powder, cumin and chili powder. Once the meat is thoroughly cooked, add the tomato coulis and hot sauce. Season with salt and continue cooking for about ten minutes. In the meantime begin boiling your hotdogs in a medium pot. Once they are ready, place them in the steamed buns top with the spicy Michigan sauce and grated marble cheese. Enjoy!
