      International Women’s Day As International Women’s Day rolls around, a few Italian-Canadian organizations in Montreal and Toronto are planning events to celebrate the occasion.

      CIBPA Toronto is celebrating International Women’s Day with an event called “Women in Business” on Tuesday, March 8, at 6:00PM, at CIBO Wine Bar (2472 Yonge Street). The evening will feature speakers from the business world. They are: Rossana Magnotta, CEO of Magnotta Winery; Entrepreneur and Author Teresa Cascioli: Julia Hanna from Ristorante Julia/Ritorno; and Marketing VP Joanne Moretti. Andrea Tretadue from CHIN TV will host the event. Registration to the event is required. Tickets cost $65.00 for CIBPA members and $85.00 for non-members. For more information call (416) 782-4445.

      In Montreal, the Quebec Chapter of the National Congress of Italian Canadians is marking the occasion with a conference on Sunday, March 13 at the McCord Museum (690 Sherbrooke Street). The conference, which runs from 3:00PM to 5:00PM, will spotlight women who have chosen a career in politics. On the panel are: Rita De Santis, member of the National Assembly of Quebec, who was recently appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for Government Administration and Ongoing Program Review by Quebec premier Philippe Couillard; Filomena Rotiroti, Deputy for Jeanne-Mance–Viger, also in the National Assembly of Quebec; and Maja Vodanovic, Montreal city councilor for Lachine. Journalist Sabrina Marandola will moderate. The McCord Museum is also hosting an exhibit of works by artists Maja Vodanovic and Faustina Bilotta. The exhibit will be up from March 10 to 13. Admission to both the exhibit and the conference is free.

      The Centro Donne di Laval is celebrating March 8 with a lunch party at the Bois-Papineau Pavilion in Laval (3235 boulevard Saint-Martin Est, suite 009). The event gets underway at 11:30AM.       The Centro Donne Solidali e Impegnate is organizing two events in Montreal to celebrate International Women’s Day. The first will be held on Tuesday, March 8, starting at 11:00AM, at Madonna di Pompei Church (2875, Sauvé Street East). With entertainment provided by DJ Antonietta, the daytime festivities will include lunch, dancing and a raffle. Then on Friday, March 11, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, the Centro is hosting an evening of entertainment, performance and art dedicated to women artists at the L’Ami-Temps Hall (1345 rue Fleury Est).
